B12 problems
Jul 1, 2003
Hi, I am new on this board. I have been looking for something like this for a while. I am a 35-year-old female with a b12 deficiency. It seems to be due to a lack of intrinsic factor but I haven't done a schillling's test. After almost 20 years of dealing with extreme fatigue I was finally diagnosed with this problem. I was never anemic so until I started showing more neurological problems I gave up on trying to find an answer. When I did have these new problems, the dr. immediately recognized it and tested my level. I don't know if this is hereditary or not, but my father had MS and like most was b12 deficient. One of my brothers is also b12 deficient. I was doing fine for a year with getting a 1cc shot once a month. This past January I became pregnant and I am getting 3cc almost every week just to keep my level up. When I get it tested every month it has been 200 at best. If I go longer than a week I get my symptoms back immediately...shooting pain in my left hand and foot and a general pain like arthritis in my hands. I also get extremely tired and have to avoid driving. I have read many of your posts and just wondering if anyone has had similiar problems or could offer any insight. Thank you
Lynn
