Is your husband taking one of the popular meds for his reflux--Pepcid, Zantac, etc? If so, he may also be suffering from B12 deficiency caused anemia.

The reflux meds also block the the intrinsic factor production that accompanies the gastric secretions. This impairs the B12 uptake in the gut. It takes perhaps as long as five YEARS for the liver and bone marrow to exhaust the stores of B12 that normal people have, and these reflux meds have been off prescription, at least in the US, for about 6 years.

A specific blood test for B12 levels is available, and low levels can be corrected by injections or perhaps by sub-lingual B12 tablets.

So yes, it is possible that reflux and anemia go hand in hand!
