I was just diagnosed with autoimmune hemolytic anemia last month after feeling very ill, I went to my Primary care doc and had a cbc done and found out my hemoglobin was only at 4...Was admitted to hospital for 4 days of testing and 4 blood transfusions. The meds they started my on in the hospital were 80 mg of prednisone ,folic acid and protonix for my stomach, After I left the hospital my hematologist lowered the prednisone to 60mg per day then he bummed to down a few days later to 40mgs per I am on 30 and hope I can make it 20 by the end of the month...I really hate this drug and all the side effects I have...the classic FAT face, I cant stop eating, very moody and I don't sleep ...the list can go on and on but I was assured by my Doc that most of the side effects will pretty much away when the prednisone is under 20 mg . My hemoglobin is staying around 11.6 while all the tapering of the prednisone is done. It can be managed and may also be a chronic thing for myself as it seems the antibodies are really had to get rid of...I can tell you it will get better after the meds are controlled. Good Luck with it
