Re: Low B12
Aug 22, 2005
Hi Bentley,

I have a b12 deficiency also, but I don't have pernicious anemia (they don't know what's causing my problem). Anyway, as far as how low your level is, well, it depends on the reference range for the test. I'm in the U.S. and the reference range for my lab is 200 -- 1100. However, it says that although this is the "normal" range, patients under 300 "may experience unexplained neuropsychiatric or hamatologic abnormalities due to occult B12 deficiency". Yeah, that scared the you-know-what out of me, too, but I've been okay. I started out on an oral supplement, which worked well for a while, but now I'm on B12 injections every two weeks. My levels are coming up VERY slowly, but I've never gotten the burst of energy you did, wow.

I also understand about the being young thing. My doctor likes to joke that I'm on line very two weeks with the senior citizens!

How often are you going for the shots? In the meantime, try to eat some more if you can -- every little bit helps...

Be well,
