... After noticing a recent decrease in my athletic performance, I sent a message to my doctor early last week. My primary care physician ordered blood work and sent me to a hematologist in oncology. The hematologist said it was "very unlikely" cancer and ordered more blood work. Further blood work confirmed I have iron deficiency anemia. All my blood work was normal apart from... (8 replies)

They sent me to an oncologoist too..but it was just because if one of those numbers is low the other one is too high or the other way around...the oncologist didn't seem concerned about it and said that the numbers would be right again once the anemia was under control. How did it work out with your mom? (2 replies)
... From my understanding a normal RBC for Women is 4.2 to 5.4 million/uL Anemia can be serious if left untreated, "please" consult with your doctor before doing anything. NovaFerrum is a good prescription iron that you may want to consult with your doctor about. A good physician will guide you on what you need to know. All the best. (2 replies)

But my haemaglobin and haematocrit seem a bit low. Could they be causing my symptoms? Ferritin 66 (5-204)... (4 replies)

... I have iron deficiency anemia also. Your numbers are very similar to mine. (I'll include the relevant ones below.) My doctor referred to my anemia as "mild." Since I'm male and the averages for men are higher than for women, my numbers are slightly further off from the average than yours are. Thus, your anemia is most certainly mild, too. I was also put on an iron and vitamin... (7 replies)
... I finally saw a hematologist on November 20 and she did very thorough bloodwork. According to the letter she sent my PCP she wrote that "unfortunately in some patieints an obvious source of GI blood loss cannot be identified." I am not anemic because my H and H were low but within normal ranges. I'll post my test results below. I do have very bad GERD and have... (11 replies)

For example, I have seen RBC reference ranges with low limits of anywhere from 4.0 to 4.7.
