I was told in January that I was very iron def anemic. They were concerned about a blood loss, because they levels dropped rather suddenly over the course of 6 months. I saw my ob/gyn and they agreed that af was not the cause since the change was so sudden in my test results but there was no sudden change in anything else. I was sent to a gastro who did every test in the book and found no bleeding. My gp agreed that it was caused by something other than bleeding, so I was sent to a hematologist. After about 5 seconds he said that it looks like classic anemia. It is probably from af. Take your iron and you will be fine.

Does this make sense to anyone else? Can you just suddenly develop anemia like this with no real cause?

There is a type of anemia that is called Idiopathic. That is a fancy label for we do not know why. People can develop immune disorders later in life that will cause the body to kill its own red blood cells believing them to be foriegn. Some times people have to have their spleens removed in order to adjust the body's red cell making factory. If you have not had a bone marrow biopsy that might be the next move, if and only if taking the iron supplements do not work.
