Cinderella, it sounds like you're just not getting enough iron and B-12 in your diet. Chicken has some iron, but red meat has much more. Some women just need more in their diet than others. If you want to stay away from red meat, try getting in more dark leafy green vegetables, and cook them rather than having them in salad.

It's not always a heavy period that causes iron deficiency. Some people don't absorb nutrients as well as others. Anxiety and stress can affect health in many ways. It can cause you to literally bleed inside, for instance, as with ulcers.

I don't know about the heart palpitations, as that's not a symptom I've ever had. I'd see a cardiologist for that. It's possible there's a heart condition causing the anemia or something causing both things.
