The specialist i'm currently seeing has said that a couple of things can affect your absorbtion of iron. 1 is a gluten intolerance and 2 is insufficient enzymes to help with food digestion.

Apart from taking the iron tablets what else are you doing to help boost your levels? Do you stick to a healthy diet and not drink caffeine type drinks with your meals? and my specialist has also warned me that a high dairy intake of milk or cheese with main meals can stop your iron absorbtion by up to 60%

A guy at my work said that his son ended up having iron injections and drank pure and fresh beetroot juice, one glass each day for a month, and his iron went to normal within the 3 month period. I'm thinkinking of giving the beetroot juice a go as i've heard fresh beetroot is good for the blood among other things.
