Re: Iron level
May 3, 2007
Thank you for the reply. My diet for months now has not included red meat and also I dont eat vegetables like I should so that is why I just prefer to try with iron supplement and iron rich foods first. I have no problem doing the test in say 4-6 months if still low or even sooner if I have some sort of sympton that would cause alarm as of now I do not and function normally. One other reason for not wanting the colonoscopy now is due to the fact that my son will be having major surgery this July and I cannot afford to take off anymore more time from work. I already have missed a full day to have endoscopy done and short days to go to see the Dr plus miss alot to take my son to Dr for all his tests and appts before surgery so that has some to do with it. Once my son is recovering I can then do test if necessary.

I also am confused on the different type of blood tests for iron, I actually dont even know which taken as now I see there are others. My regular Dr told me they now only test hemoglobin and if it low then they ck the iron but in 1994 and 1996 I did have iron cked and it was 36 and 73 so I guess kinda low in 1994 also for whatever reason. I am 43 also so I understand the importance of more tests etc..but still sometimes feel the Dr's need to be questioned also.
