HI, new here
Nov 4, 2007
I was diagnosed with iron deficiency about 3 months ago. Had serum ferritin at 9. I was exhausted, nauseous, couldn't sleep and ran out of breath after a set of stairs. For the first month and a half my body did not take the iron pills well and along with my diet changes (eating more red meat and cutting back on the diary and tea) my body was out of whack. Now the iron pills are not so bad; however, I did stop taking them for a week about three weeks ago. I was just sick of having the runs or being constipated all the time and it's like I have lost all the head way I had made. Not to mention a super stress full last two weeks during which I only got 6 hrs of sleep each night. I am worried my body isn't absorbing the iron well, I take 4x 325 mg of ferrous sulfate each day. So I was thinking I should see some results faster. I realize recovering my ferritin levels could take up to a year. I am going to go in and have my blood work done within the next few days. So hopefully I will see some improvement. I have also experience a fair amount of hair loss. During the last few years...sad and a recent unfortunate episode induced by a whole bunch of stressing I did about 2-3 months ago. The stress induced hair loss has just slowed or stopped. Yay, but I still have a long way to go in that department. I have been wondering one thing. I have been taking vitamin E, B-complex, Fish Oil, C, and Zinc supplements for a few years, everyday. Could my supplements be inhibiting iron absorption? I think I double whammied myself, by eating little meat and even less red meat for the past 2-3 yrs and eating lots of dairy and being an avid tea drinker. Any comments?
