Re: Iron? thyroid?
Apr 4, 2008
happymedium--When taking iron supplements and Synthroid the iron can interfere with the absorption of the Synthroid. These have to be taken apart.

I was told on the Thyroid board that iron can have a problem in the liver if you have a thyroid issue. I still don't unerstand that. So, I guess there is a possibility that low iron can be related to thyroid but I do not know and understand that. Next, the thyroid can in fact cause heavy periods that can lead to low iron levels. That I do understand.

Your tsh number is at high end of normal range, so maybe that is your reason for feeling bad. And having low iron probably means that you also have a low ferritin which equals your symptoms. Could be one or the other or both that cause your symptoms. I would first correct the iron levels and see how you are feeling, then I would work on the thyroid. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
