You both sound pretty similar to my situation. Can you tell me if total iron, TIBC and saturation can be normal if the ferritin is low?

I would think yes, but I really don't know for sure. These test are for iron stats and tell something about how much iron is circulating in the blood stream for use. This is changed by supplements and diet too. If all these things are working and enough iron is in the diet they should show normal results. With iron deficiency anemia, the TIBC is high with low serum iron and low sat %.

The ferritin are the stores that are called on when needed and eventually can be depleted over a period of time. This is why you can also have normal H & H and only low ferritin because it hasn't been depleted yet, but will some day if there is a problem going on which can take years.

I've got low RBCs, WBCs, hemoglobin and hematocrit, but my iron is within normal range. I also have major heart palps, which has led to some anxiety. I think maybe my ferritin should be checked at the next draw.

The ferritn should always be checked if there is an anemia or anything for that matter.

I am on B12 supplements because my B12 was 338.

Your MCV (the size of the cells) should show larger resulting in a higher MCV result that is consistant with B-12 deficiency.

What are your experiences?

I do not have a B-12 def at all. I had IDA and malabsorption of iron due to long term PPI use.:( FLFLOWERGIRL:)
