Re: B12?

Melissa--No, B-12 deficiency does not mean that you definitively have PA. Causes of B-12 deficiency can be divided into 3 causes; nutrition deficiency, malabsorption syndromes and gastrointestinal causes. But if it runs in your family that is the key to look for PA because it is an AI disease that can be inherited as Hashimotos can. So that would be key to help in finding a DX for you. Many doctors will not look further because it is treated the same way as B-12 deficiency. On the other hand, many do find a cause. I think that it is important to know if it is AI related or not. Do you have Hashi's as well?

I don't think that you need to see a Hematologist unless you have a bigger problem. They will just refer you to a GI doc that should DX the reason why you are B-12 def. A PCP can give you your injections or a script to do it yourself.

Low adrenal function can cause low hydrochloric acid in the stomach that leads to malabsorption. You may want to go over this with your Endo too. Good luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
