Lab reports
Jul 29, 2008
I had lab work done in Sept of last year.
WBC Normal 5.7
RBC normal 4.82
Hemoglobin Low 11.2
Hematocrit Low 35.7
MCV Low 74
MCH Low 23.2
MCHC Low 31.3
RDW Normal 14.3
Platelets Normal 295

I was told by my Doc that they weren't low enough to produce symptoms.

I just had labs done again this time with also Iron and Iron binding Capacity but of course No Ferritin level done. Can't seem to get them to do the test.

So here I am now.

Iron Low 29
Iron Binding Normal 438
WBC Normal 9.4
RBC Normal 4.36
Hemoglobin Low 9.7
Hematocrit Low 31.2
MCV Low 72
MCH Low 22.3
MCHC Low 31.1
RDW High 16.4
Platelettes Normal 358

I'm still getting the same symptoms. Brian fog, lack of energy, Heart rate increases with little exertion, calf cramping.

I'm just not sure, maybe these values aren't producing any symptoms and it's all together something else. The rest of my labs seem to be "normal" though.

timetoreclaim--First of all, have you had testing to see why you are anemic and values declining? Are you on iron replacement therapy? Has your doctor determined what type of anemia you have? Sorry about the questions, but this is ongoing without resolution so I am concerned. Now you are moderately anemic whereas before you were mildly. I would bet that you have no iron stores either. If you do they are probably under the range at 5-9 I would guess. This is why you have symptoms. Your iron (although not a true picture of iron) is very, very low. Your MCV is also low which is probably what is causing the heart rate to go high upon exertion. I would say IMO, and from my experience that you are definitely experiencing symptoms from moderate anemia. I really don't think that your doc would tell you the same thing this time, he didn't did he? You are in the fell like crap range. That's how a few of my doctors explained it to me. I felt like crap and a lot more. I would demand a ferritin test or change doctors. You need to know (and have the right to know) what your numbers are. Cry, whatever, just get some answers!!! It worked for me a few times. Keep us posted. Good luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
