jamie, you might be having iron-deficiency anemia.

At the lab where I had blood tests, I was advised to have my reticulocytes tested, too. If their number is higher than the normal range, it means your body is trying hard to meet its need for enough red blood cells.

Often Iron levels can be within the range, but Ferritin and Reticulocyte can give a better picture.

As it was in my case, with iron-deficiency anemia, you should also have lower hemoglobin, MCV, hematocrit (these are included in CBC - Complete Blood Count).

Strangely, with Ferritin a bit lower than 3, I had a normal count of Red Blood Cells, though my reticulocytes were high.
