I had my iron infusion yesterday and today I feel like a new person. I was so afraid to have this done, but my fears where laid to rest yesterday. It took about 5 hours. I got there at 10:00am and left by 3:00pm. They first gave hooked the IV up and then gave me Tylenol in pill form, then Bendryl in the IV. They did a test bag of the iron - Infed (aka - Dextram). When that dripped in succesfully they gave me the big bag of iron. I slept alot - the Bendryl made me sleepy - and I didn't sleep very well the night before. I was in a recliner chair and had brought a DVD player with me to watch movies - but I didn't even finish one movie because I slept so much. Before you know it - I was done. I was very tired when I got home and slept some more.

This morning I woke up feeling energized. My headaches were gone; the pain in my legs - gone; the ringing in my ears - gone. I felt pretty darn good for the first time in months. They said I would feel the effects in 5-7 days, but I feel them already. It was a very positive experience for me. I really thought my low energy was due to menopause, aging and running around like a mad woman most days to get all the things done that needed to be done.

I have read a lot of your posts and my heart goes out to all of you! I wish I was more knowledgeable about this blood disorder so that I could help you. But with time, I am sure I will aquire the knowledge and then maybe I can help.

I go back to get my levels checked on the 24th. Also, more tests to see if I am losing blood through my body or not producing iron.

In the meantime, you are all in my hearts and prayers.
