I will be going for a renal biopsy after the holidays. As part of a lab workup one day prior to the procedure, bleeding time and coagulation will be tested. Excessive bleeding is the main complication of renal biopsy, thus a big concern. If I don't "pass" these tests, the procedure will not be carried out.
I have learned that anemia complicates things and prolongs bleeding time. Apparently, prolonged bleeding time correlates with the Hct value. I am trying to learn more about this association. My anemia is mild at this point, with hematocrit borderline (.35) and hemoglobin 11.4 when last tested about a month and a half ago. My ferritin was 6 about three months ago.
I would appreaciate any information about these issues. Thank you. :)
