Hi all,
Just thought I would give you all an update on my anemia situation. Last spring I was diagnosed with IDA and B12 anemia, in fact my Doc now writes Pericious Anemia on my chart although I have not been tested for intrinsic factor.

Anyway my original labs were vaguely low in the iron department, with a Ferritin of 9, HGB of 11.

I took Ferro Sequels with better effect than the poly iron but that is just my experience. My last reading was Ferritin 37, HGB 14.5. In fact my doc suggests I don't take the iron daily anymore, or just take a multi with less iron. The Ferro sequels are 50 mg.

I get B12 shots once monthly now and last check was over 500 (can't remember). Originally my B12 was around the 200 mark.

I wanted to update you all and encourage you to keep this up. I feel a hundred times better than I did 6 months ago. I think the B12 has really made the difference. I have MS and most of the symptoms that I thought were MS related have GONE. I was fatigued, with dizziness and muscle fascilations on a DAILY basis. All this is GONE. Before I could lie in bed and watch the muscles in my legs jerk and move like so many snakes under my skin. This has stopped completely. The ONLY time I notice them starting to come back is when I am late getting the B12 shot.

I have been on disability for 8 years and am going to get a full time job and go OFF DISABILITY this month..All because of B12.

Another thing I have found out for your information is that for the last 8 years I have had horrible migraines, so bad I had to go to the ER for morphine shots. I always get these at the end of my periods which were usually heavy. Since the B12 and iron, my periods are lighter, hardly any big clots like before. AND I schedule my monthly B12 immediately before my period and guess what....NO MIGRAINES. I used to take darvocet every day for I take less than 4 tylenols in any 24 hour period for minor aches.

I wanted to tell you all this because this board helped me so much when I was going through the anemia and everything else. Don't give up. If you are iron or B12 deficient, even by a small amount you will feel like you are dying. I did. My life is back to where it was BEFORE i was diagnosed with MS. My MS doctor says except for my MRI he could not tell I have MS. In fact it is this Doc who found my deficiency and believes that MS "may" start with just such a deficiency.

Today I walked 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. A year ago I could barely walk through Walmart parking lot without getting out of breath. Please MAKE your physicians test you for B12. If it is below 500 MAKE them give you shots or else take the supplements yourself. It will change your life. I am proof.
