mysixpack--Actually you sound like you may be an easier case of anemia because of multiple births. You probably didn't raise your ferritin enough in between births and along with heavy periods you eventually bottom out, but it takes years. Your numbers are not that bad for Hgb, you are mildly anemic. You are definately iron depleted with a 4 ferritin. This is why it is so important to maintain a healthy ferritin and know your numbers. Your symptoms are probably a combination of anemia and low, low ferritin. My Hematologist said anything under 10 means there is no iron remaining. I would suggest a high dose GI friendly iron. See if you are able to absorb well and raise your ferritin to at least 50-70-100. Do not settle for lower numbers. 50 is really nothing it's just minimal for health and to stop the fatigue. Have you also had your thyroid tested? What, how much iron have you been taking and how long? If so do you take it correctly on an empty stomach between meals? If you prove that you don't absorb then you need to move on to a Hematologist. You should also be checked for internal bleeding upper, probably not lower but maybe and/or stool testing for blood. Best of luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
