Things that I would try. First, I would call a Hematologist that can see you sooner than later. If you wait for your doc's office they could make you an appointment for a month from now which is not beneficial to you. I always do my own research on doctors and appointments. When your on the phone tell them your numbers and see if they treat people at those numbers (I'm sure they do). Make sure that they take your insurance too. I have actually made my appointment in advance (pending referral) because you can always cancel it.

Second, I would go directly back to the (PCP) and demand to see a specialist due to your long term history of symptoms and labs. Take a family member with you and put your foot down. It has worked for me several times. I don't tell them I have an appointment until I get my referral. I just have some undesirable doctors and have to look out for myself sometimes. Looking at your labs I don't know how on earth they would fight it??? Next, if none of this works you can see another doctor, with an HMO you can change PCP's as many times as you like as long as you notify them of the changes so that the appointment if covered.

I had tachycardia and palpitations with my anemia and it was no fun. I was really scared. Finally one doc did all testing for the heart and renals because I also had sky high BP.

I hope you get some help soon. In the meantime you really need to take high doses of high beginning with a little at a time and building up to it until you can tolerate the iron without GI symptoms. You may have to experiment with iron supplements. You should not exercise too much either. Best of luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
