Re: Stomach issues
Feb 9, 2009
I know there's been a lot of talk on here about anemia going hand in hand with stomach issues. I was hoping someone might be able to answer a few more questions.

My blood test for celiac's came back negative. I had my upper endoscopy today and they said everything looked normal except for some red irritated areas in my stomach that they biopsied. If this is negative too, would that be a good indicator that I DON'T have it? I keep reading that the only tru way to know is to go Gluten-Free for at least 3 months. I would be absolutely miserable.

So my other question is, can anemia itself cause nausea and stomach pains?
I do think that this would be a key indicator that you don't have Celiac disease. Your villi would be damaged to some extend most likely, this is the sign that they are looking for if they are flattened or normal. The biopsy is the "gold standard."

I do think that anemia causes nausea, it did for me at least I think this is the cause. They said that it could have been anything causing it. After my anemia resolved so did the nausea. The minute my feet hit the floor I was ill. I sipped water all the time which helped a lot. What a bad time that was. It was a lot like being pregnant. Keep us posted.
