j0j0quan--Welcome to the boards!

So, are you diagnosed with Iron Deficiency Anemia due to a malabsorption?

They haven't determined the cause yet since I just found out yesterday. They want to rule out internal bleeding before putting me on iron pills....but that was before the ferritin number came in.

This would dictate what your protocol may be for iron supplementation. Your numbers are very low. I am not clear on what type of condition you have that would result in anemia. Are you seeing a Hematologist or specialist? Keep us posted.

The person that ordered my tests is a nurse practitioner in the ob/gyn department. I had thought my symptoms were cycle related. I have a call out to the urgent care to see if I should come in over the weekend but no one has called me back :(

I'm on my second day of my cycle and the bleeding is not as bad as it has been for the last couple of months but feel pretty crummy. Not sure and what point I should demand intervention.

I was diagnosed in 2007 with visceral hypersensitivity, functional dyspepsia, low accomodation and small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Basically my stomach will think it is full with very little stimulating. Low accommodating means what gets in...not a lot fits. The bacterial overgrowth had resulted in malabsorption so I wasn't retaining nutrients and I had lost over 50 lbs in 2 years.

Does the amount a person eat affect the absorption rate of the supplements?
