A low ferritin can be due to more than one reason too. Have you also had your B-12 and folate checked? This would be a good idea if you haven't. I would have a GI rule out any malabsorption due to the previous Crohn's because the calcium probably wouldn't cause a total malabsorption I wouldn't think. Maybe as you say the diet and lack of heme iron.

I only take calcium once a day so it does not interfere with my iron. You can only do the best that you can. If you are taking Ferris Sulfate I wouldn't worry so much because it seems to absorb no matter what. Try to get at least one dose without inhibiting. You will know through blood rechecks if it is working for you. You may need to just tweak it a little later on.

Your ferritin is 0, so I would think that you have a good change of resolving this (RLS) issue through raising the ferritin, I did. Good luck to you.
