Ok so I am 26 yrs old and have been anemic for a couple yrs now. I take Rx Iron pills and also take a multivitamin with iron. My levels stay from 7-10.9 I think has been the highest in the past yr. I have extremely heavy periods to the point I have been rushed to the ER due to bleeding and I also have short cycles 20-26 days. (In ref to another post I saw, I have had an endometrial biopsy to rule out that) We know this is why I am anemic but I don't have any children so there is only so much the doctor will do.

When I went to the ER in Feb the ER doctor said I should consider more drastic options like a ablation/hysterectomy as my red blood cells are starting to be funny shaped and that I am endangering my health from this going on for soooo long. Also that my platelet count was a lil high but nothing to be concerned about. I don't really know what all that means and I was pretty upset at the time and didn't think to ask. I also since last may started having heart issues with PAC's and PVC's and since they have ruled out anything serious including me having a cath and an EP study they think it could be linked to the low iron.

I am starting to feel terrible and like just want to sleep all the time and have no energy at all. I am very irritable and just have no energy to focus or concentrate on anything for very long anymore. Just doing laundry and stuff I sometimes have to stop and rest as I get sooo tired I literally feel sick. I talked to my obgyn and he wont consider anything drastic thinks I should probably try the birth control route again. I am just sick and tired of being sick and tired :(

Just FYI, I do take Nexium which I heard can affect absorption but I take the nexium in the AM and the Iron in the PM usually so its not together. I cant really live without the nexium as I have asthma as well and with reflux I need it. I do eat pretty well and healthy and love green veggies that kinda thing. My thyroid is normal. My B12 was 255 which I thought it was supposed to be between 400-900? but I am not sure. She said it isnt really that low but that I could take B12 to see if it helps. Anyone know anything about funny shaped red blood cells? Only thing I can find is sickle cell anemia which looks to be something you are born with? Just wondering if anyone has any advice?
