Daises28--Welcome to the boards!~

I *think* that it is your (Hgb) that you are speaking of at 12.5 which 12.0 is usually the bottom of the range and anything ~under range~ for H & H and RBC determines IF you are anemic. The (HCT) low end range is a much higher number such as 34-35 at the cut off.

The ferritin is an iron storage that is lowered when there is a large amount of blood loss or chronic blood loss. It literally can take years for this to happen so before this time you have had sufficient iron stores to keep the H & H at a healthy donating level. Now, it seems that you may have depleted your iron stores and the ferritin is having a hard time keeping up. You should have a CBC, iron panel, Ferritin, B-12 and folate levels tested to see if you are borderline anemic or just depleted in iron stores. You will also need to discontinue the blood donations until your stores fill again which can take up to a year with iron supplements. Having a monthly cycles also contributes as a cause. This is very usual and typical for women that donate on a regular basis or without first building their stores back up. Hope that helped. Take care. FLFG:)
