I went back to my PCP and gave him a do-over, I told him that if anemia was not causing me to be fatigued, my hair to fall out and my skin to be dry and itchy then it was something else. He agreed but told me to keep trying with the oral iron (which is REALLY HARD). Then he sent me to a endocrinlogist. She tested for a number of things but what it came down to is - critically low iron, low Vit D, hypoglycemia secondary to RNY and Hashimoto's disease. She says that my test showed that my thyroid is under attack. I will post on that thread to get some advice there.

However, I have given up on iron supplements - I switched from ferrous sulfate to ferrous gluconate and still had problems. I was supposed to take 65mg elemental in whatever form 3x per day and you may guess how that ended up - poorly for my GI tract. So, taking as much as I could he ordered a test
RETICULOCYTES/100 RBC'S, AUTOMATED 0.70 0.47-2.40 %
RETICULOCYTE COUNT, ABSOLUTE 0.030 0.020-0.109 M/uL

My #s are .70 and .030. I thought they fell into the normal range but my doc indicated that since I am anemic and taking iron those numbers should be through the roof. So, finally he is coming around to the idea that Post RNY I a may not be the same as everyone else. He ordered the iron infusion Friday, I am waiting to be scheduled 1x per week for 5 weeks.

Anyone have their Reticulocytes counted? Is this test reliable? dawn
