I know exactly how you feel. I have been unwell since last August, aching, weak, tired and breathless. I found out last week that my last blood test came back three weeks ago with a ferritin level of 6. It was just filed away as apparently this is normal and wouldn't normally cause anyone to feel unwell! I only found out from pure chance when calling about something else. My GP won't refer me for further tests (a dysautonomia) as she feels it might be down to my ferritin levels but then in the same breath says that is nothing to be concerned with. Basically I should take high strength iron for a few months but wasn't even going to tell me about it because it is not important!

I have been suffering since last August, have become depressed and actually feel paranoid about going to the GP as they make me feel like I am making things up! Apparently in the UK it is quite normal to have ferritin levels this low. In the USA, 50 is the optimal level. My question is what is the difference between a British woman and an American?! We are all women and ferritin is ferritin. I'm totally confused here.
