Hello back again
Aug 19, 2010
hey everyone,
i just have a question and that is!does anytone here feel symptomatic at a ferratin of around 55?
Its taken me 3 years of iron treatment to get my level from a 7 to 55 and because i feel infinatleyt better than i did at 7,ive just kinda been assuming im "all better now" thing is,is that i still seem prone to going pale(in the face) after every monstrously heavy period and am very achy and painy..the aches and pains feel like theyre right in my bones at the moment around my shoulders..i also feel very spacey and scatty after a bleed..i have also managed to catch about 8 viruses this year alone and spent most of it being ill..ive been walking for an hour every day and am pretty active but my weight just will not budge at all ,not even an oz..things like palpitations are MUCH better but i am still prone to occasional thuddings and flutterings. and (now) minor dizziness.I am starting to wonder weather its not particulary good for a person to have been deficient in iron for so long!although the level im at now, would not be classed as defficient of course;)
Any thoughts anyone?i had forgotten that maybe this issue is still problematic to me because im just so used to feeling exhausted run down and generaly crap..:)
Hi Tibby2

Have just replied to your other post before reading this one.

I too suffered from the extreme tiredness and had palpitations quite relgularly. My ferritin levels, after two years of taking iron 420mg per day, are still only up to 55ish. My palpitations are now gone and I do not suffer from the constant extreme tiredness any more. My lowest level was 10. I still get periods (age 49) but think I am starting menopause as sometimes I go two months without a period. My periods still wipe me out and the tiredness and fatigue is crushing just before and during my period. I also feel clumsy, scatty and look pale with dark circles under my eyes at this time of the month. I have often said that I loose something in my joints and ligaments at this time as I ache so much. And, I match you with the weight problem, I walk for miles and still the weight goes on. Eat healthily and don't overeat either. I do however use inhalers every day for my astma so maybe this is causing my weight gain.

My low ferritin levels were discovered after I had a run in with Labyrinthitis which is an inner ear disease. I have problems with balance and dizziness but since my ferritin levels have improved, I am not so dizzy/off balance so maybe this has helped with that.

So, you are not alone!

Take care
