Have been feeling absolutely terrible. I've been anemic since I was 15 years old, 27 years old now, but only in the last six months have I been having extreme fatigue, confusion and focusing problems (I am forgetting where I am going when I'm driving even, places I have been regularly and that are close to where I live). Recurrent infections have been common with me as have migraines and I assume they are unrelated to Anemia.

Anyway doctors and hematologist are telling me my iron count, hemoglobin and hct aren't "that low" so I should not be having all of this extreme fatigue and confusion and are basically just dismissing it as a vegetarian diet/heavy period thing even though I told them I not only supplement with iron daily since 15 but I eat iron fortified foods w/vitamin C at EVERY MEAL.... but my saturation level is 4.7% and they say I am microcytic. Nobody seems interested in finding out WHY I have small red blood cells or about the saturation thing, even my hematologist and they will not sign a work release for me when I cannot do anything right now. They insist it is just "stress", but my fingernails are pink/red and white and I've lost 15 pounds in just two weeks (still losing) and I am making myself eat meals 3 times a day anyway and still taking my iron. I guess I need an iron infusion but this is all so confusing to me.

If my iron is close to okay but my saturation is really low, could this be causing all my fatigue and confusion? I have a son with ADHD and I have zero energy and I feel very helpless right now and like no one is listening to me. Please give me any advice or information you may have.
