Hi all! I just found this board and I'm hoping someone here (or everyone here!) can help me.

I'm 38 years old and have been dx'd with numerous disorders and illnesses over the past ten years. What it has all culminated in is Lyme Disease, and unfortunately for me it seems I've had it long enough that it's chronic.

I've dealt with anemia several times in my life- as a teenager, during both of my pregnancies, and when I initially became very ill four years ago. Chronic Fatigue was the first dx I received after contracting mono that I never seemed to recover from. Then Fibromyalgia, and I could go on and on :dizzy: During this time period I was found to have hypothyroidism, anemia, low progesterone, adrenal exhaustion, an MTHFR genetic mutation (has to do with methylation and the ability to detoxify) and just recently a Folate Receptor mutation that affects the ability to absorb Folic Acid. During that same round of blood work, it was discovered I'm anemic again with Ferritin levels of 2. I do not know what the rest of the numbers are- I was just informed that it is not just my ferritin that is low- Anemia is in the house.

I am allergic to sulfa drugs, and so my doctor prescribed Ferrous Gluc (whatever the rest of the word is) 324mg to be taken once a day. Is this enough? Over the phone he said he'd never actually had a patient with ferritin levels as low as mine and made the situation sound quite urgent. I do know my ferritin has never been this low before.

I suffer from debilitating fatigue that is so pervasive I have to take stimulants to get out of bed in the morning and to stay awake all day. I also take it to treat ADHD symptoms I've had most of my life and that worsened after I became ill. I know it's not an ideal situation but I have children to take care of and don't know what else to do while we treat the endless laundry list of problems and hope for improvement (while finding yet more!).

I was somewhat surprised to find out I was anemic again, as I really haven't felt any worse than normal beyond a worsening of my Neurocardiogenic Syncope symptoms in the last week or two- mainly dizziness upon standing up.

I eat meat and plenty of iron fortified foods. I'm sure there's room for improvement, but honestly it's not that bad.

My family seems to feel I should be receiving shots or something to at least get a jump on raising my ferritin levels and resolving the anemia. On the other side of the fence is my LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor) and biomed community who have helped me tremendously up to now in figuring out what is wrong with me. They feel that my ferritin levels may not actually be low, I could have too much iron and the Lyme bacteria is feeding off of it. I have actually heard before that iron feeds bacteria and can make bacterial problems worse. The last thing I want to do is make the Lyme worse, but at the same time I have to resolve the anemia.

Any thoughts, advice or recommendations on how to proceed? Thanks in advance for your help.
