Hello,

I was diagnosed with anemia summer 2010 with hemo count of 8.4. Doctor checked my iron which was low, determined it was caused by heavy monthly cycle and prescribed iron supplements. After a while, I felt so great and had moved out of the country so after a bloodtest revealed my anemia was gone, I slacked on taking my iron. Very stupid idea, btw.

A year later(3 months ago) I started to feel bad, I mean -real- bad. Worst fatigue I have ever felt. Brain fog. My tongue began to tingle along with my lips. Now tingling is gone but my tongue is sore. I was weak, dizzy and had a rapid pulse. After being tested for several things via MRI and blood tests, my doctor determined that my iron stores are horribly low ( I wish I had the number but I don't.) and my iron at 17. I'm no longer anemic but for some reason, I feel worse than when I was anemic a year ago. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Anyway, I'm back on iron and I -guess- I am having more good days now than a month ago when I started iron. Still, progress has been slow. My pulse has come down (mostly), my palpatations are nearly gone. Tingling is barely noticeable and I have less anxiety. I'm still so tired all the time and my tongue drives me crazy. I have been told I should feel better in 3-4 months but I've read it takes 6-12 to rebuild stores. Some days, I swear I will never get better because I can have 4 great days and then bam! I'm sick again.

I wondered if anyone else has gone through something like this. Anyone feel terrible having low iron stores? I always thought you would not have symptoms until you were anemic but I guess I was wrong. If anyone did feel bad with low iron, how long before you felt "normal" again? I want to trust my doctor and family who are telling me I will get better but it's hard to believe low iron, minus the anemia, can make you feel this awful.

Thank you for your time. It means a lot.
