I've never been one to post on health boards before, though I've read them over the years, for various things. I found out I was anemic almost a week ago. My heart rate/ pulse was fast. I was exercising and it was very scary as I felt my heart beat so fast. I ended up going to the ER but the doctor tried to suggest it was "anxiety". It wasn't! It was my regular doctor who realized when he looked at my lab results. Although my blood pressure was low, but I could literally feel my heart in my neck and he said I had tachycardia from the anemia! My level was at 10, but I am clearly very sensitive to low iron. For several months I'd been really dizzy when I stood up and didn't know why. I also get cold easily. I almost felt like the blood wasn't getting to my brain, which my doc said is classic anemia! I am very athletic, or was until a week ago. I don't feel I should exercise until my heart rate is back to normal. I used to walk and do yoga most days, but now feel my faster heart rate even going up stairs. I am gluten free, I have various food allergies but they don't show on blood tests, I am on thyroid meds (years of an undiagnosed gluten allergy can screw up the thyroid), but my levels are fine and I am usually very energized and healthy. My main complaint, other than anemia, is that for the last few years I've struggled with GERD. I am going to have that checked out next week. Also, it can feel challenging to decided what is a GERD (acid reflux) symptom and what is anemia. GERD seems to increase my heart rate too. Once the acid comes up, I feel better. Last summer, I went to the ER (for the first time, ever), due to GERD related chest pain and they did all sorts of testing, but everything ended up being fine. They took a chest X-ray, blood work, and EKG- all were perfect.

Anyway, I've been taking iron pills for a week, but realized I wasn't taking the correct dose! I was only taking one a day and my prescription was for three a day. I'm hoping I'll notice significant improvement soon. Also, my GERD acid reflux seems to cause muscle twitching and numbness. Yep, I get all the funky symptoms. I think I might have been anemic off and on for years. Having normal iron is going to be a blessing. I can't wait to feel better, all over!

Good luck everyone!
