Hello, I am 38 years old. I have known that I was anemic for a long time. Back in 2011 I went through a period of heavy menstrual bleeding, along with a UTI that landed me in the hospital. I received 2 pints of blood, and was sent home with my iron at 11 and my hemoglobin at 9. I can't absorb iron pills due to weight loss surgery, and they cause severe stomach pain, along with bloody stools. In the past 6 months I started exhibiting strange symptoms. I was a heavy ice eater (pica), my tongue was smooth, I had sores in the corners of my mouth, I was experiencing symptoms of restless leg syndrome, and what I thought was tickles deep in my heart. I went to a hematologist and my lab report (only the low/abnormal values) reads as follows:

Red Blood Count 4.13
Hemoglobin 7.6
Hematocrit 26.7
MCV 64.6
MCH 18.4
MCHC 28.4
RDW 18.5
RBC Morphology Abnormal with H flag
Hypochromasia 2+
Anisocytosis 2+
Target Cells 2+
Reticulocyte Percent 0.79 with L flag
Immature Ret Fraction 21.3
Vitamin B12 >1000 H flag
Ferritin 5
Iron 13
HGB A 98.6

I was prescribed 4 rounds of Iron Sucrose (generic Venofer). My lab results after are as follows:

Iron 20
UIBC 407
Iron sat 5%
Ferritin 57
Vitamin D 6.6 I know I should be shot for this :(
Hematocrit 31.1
Hemoglobin 8.9
MCH 20.7
MCHC 28.6
MCV 73
RBC 4.29 Which is normal, but there's a not by it that says Teardrops present
RDW 25.2

The second lab report isn't as detailed because they were ordered by my family doctor, not hematologist. I haven't heard anything back from the hematologist concerning my new results. I feel as if Venofer didn't give me good enough results, and I would like to try something stronger if possible. Due to my malabsorption issues, I need to be well above normal in order to avoid having to live on constant infusions.
Should I try dextran? Or maybe some other form of infusion therapy to get better results? Is the RBC morphology because of the anemia, or should I have my bone marrow tested?

Thank you in advance for any and all help provided.
