Hi there,

I'm a 26-year-old woman. My hemoglobin has usually always stayed around 125, sometimes a bit lower, sometimes a bit higher, and I've never had any problems with it until now.

Earlier this year, I think in Feb/March, I went to see a doctor for a flu or something, I can't even remember what it was. They did blood tests and I was surprised to find out my hemoglobin was only 114. In April, it was 108. That's when I started taking an iron supplement. By August it had risen to 135. Exactly one month ago, it was 128, and now, when I had to go to the ER this week due to sudden horrendous stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and a slight fever, it had dropped down to 115. Also, my leukocytes were elevated to 12,5. A month ago, they were just 5,9.

After I got the result of 108, a complete blood count was taken and the only thing my doctor said about that was that the red blood cells were of a normal size, so it's not a typical iron deficiency anemia.

I've been suffering from various GI-issues like bloating, excessive gas, loose stools, urgency and feeling like my bowel doesn't empty properly, for a long time and was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome when my colonoscopy last year was clear. The doctors also think I have acid reflux although no tests have been clear on that.

Now I'm just freaking out about the drop in hemoglobin. Up till now, doctors have put it down to heavy periods, but my periods have been heavy since they started 15 years ago and it has never been shown to affect my hemoglobin. Lately, I've often experienced burping up food or drink right after eating. My upper abdomen feels constricted and achy, and I often get anxious about my bra pressing on it. I can feel a sort of pressure in the area or a push that seems to radiate to my back. Sometimes, I suddenly start hurting like hell when I'm trying to breathe in, it's an unbearable stabbing pain.

I'm not sure whether I even have any questions to ask, I just needed to share this as I'm feeling so scared and anxious and keep considering all these horrible possibilities in my mind. I'm calling in to get a doctor's appointment on Monday to start figuring out what the problem is exactly...

Thank you for taking the time to read this!
