It started back in September of '07 when she was complaining of severe stomach pains and the doctor diagnosed her with H Pylori and GERD. He put her on Nexium, CIPRO and was on Omeprazole as well. ... I just went back and looked at your questions and forgot to answer your first asked about eating sweets or caffeine and if her symptoms changed. I don't know if her symptoms change, but she craves coffee and sweets all of the time...never passes it up. ... Kimy27--B-12 deficiency can be due to AI--Autoimmune reasons, one of which is PA-Pernicious Anemia, which you have already ruled out by the IF test. I have read that IF testing is only 50 percent specific but much more specific in testing for Parietal Cell. Some doctors don't care to run many tests to find out why because a B-12 deficiency is treated the SAME way through IM... (8 replies)

... Rileyroe is right -- Prenious anemia test is a good place to start. Another thing not mentioned is medication-- If you are taking a PPI (Proton Pump inhibitor) like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid or Aciphix to reduce stomach acid for throat problem it can inhibit the absorption of vitamin B-12.
