Good News!!!!!

... RL, the next time I go to the mall, I am going to go to the health food store there and see if they have what you are talking about too. If the liquid form that ChristineVA mentioned doesn't have a taste, I will get what she said and also get what you said too. ... (5 replies)
... There is no way you stay with the dr. You need to follow the suggestions of ChristineVA and get the ferritin sorted out. It is serious! ... (16 replies)
... It is an over the counter preparation. You have to ask the pharmacy person if they have any liquid ferrous sulphate, or something similar. Guess they don't want the general public to accidentally take too much iron. The reason I did research was to satisfy myself that the hematologist I saw ( and paid out of pcoket for) said my ferritin was "fine". He never mentioned... (9 replies)

... Thanks, that is so interesting to hear and I will keep notes on what you used to help with the condition. Sounds like it worked well for you, I have a sensitive stomach as well - most tablets make me feel ill so your info is invaluable. Depending on the results from the additional tests you suggested -if I turn out to be similar to you I will bring this up with my doctor. She... (14 replies)
... I could have written this nearly. I feel terrible guilt for being so sick for so long without knowing it. I haven't been there for my child. I have let so many things go-my home etc. I have become a hermit. I simply don't have the energy and quite frankly it has turned into major agoraphobia. I sit at my desk all day at work FULL of anxiety so bad that the muscles in my... (14 replies)
... Actually my ferritin level is 10. I haven't been able to actually speak with either my doctor or my naturopath since I found out my ferritin went down to 10. This is because I always get the lab to send me my results in the mail (that's how I know my ferritin is 10 now). I have a doctor's appointment coming up on September 3. So yes, I agree, I have to find out what... (6 replies)

I've been reading more on this board and I've seen a lot of stuff on proton pump inhibitors and iron malabsorption. Unfortunately I have to take two Prilosec tablets (prescription) per day due to extreme acid reflux (I have a... (8 replies)

... flowergirl--I took 3X Ferris Sulfate in the beginning and I ended up in the ER because I was so very weak. It gave me enteritis for 3 months, I was extrememly ill from the complications due to iron supplements. This is why I am on a special type that is designed for the GI system and I praise my GI doctor for his knowledge on this. If I wasn't able to take iron orally I... (27 replies)
... My ferritin was fine. It was a serum iron level that was "low". I'll give them a call tomorrow and find out and then I'll post exact levels and ranges. My doc must use a strange lab for them to say that 70 is low normal... (12 replies)
... Thanks! After I read your initial post, I did some of my own research on the index and saw that the index number alone is not a diagnoses--just that in the face of anemia, being on one end or the other of the index can help you tell which type it may be. (11 replies)
... ChristineVA the mentzer index formula is MCV/RBC, but it's only a tool that useful in further classifying different forms of anemia ... it's an experimental derived observation with good theoretical grounding, but it's not 100% sensitive/specific for diagnosis anemia, which is why it's only one of many tools people use to figure out what type of anemia a person may have... ... This is very interesting. I actually researched "anemia of chronic disease" and then spoke to a couple of my doctors about it in the last two weeks or so. One of the mysterious illnesses we've been dealing with for several years now is Carcinoid syndrome, although we've never been able to locate a primary tumor. The Social Security Disability judge was satisfied with the... (11 replies)
... Most likely you are not getting enough iron as ChristineVA stated. If you can, try eating steak or red meat 3X weekly along with other iron rich foods and see if that doesn't do the trick. ... (7 replies)
