... my doctor put me on a low dose iron pill and I went from slightly anemic to barely not anemic and she told me not to worry about the anemia because it was probably genetic. ... (4 replies)
... I'm not sure if im anemic or anything. ... (2 replies)
... I do take 15mg of Prevacid daily, but they said that would likely not be causing iron absorption problems because I used to take 60mg/day (prior to Nissen fundoplication surgery for GERD) and I didn't have low iron at that point and my low iron is more recent. It is good to know that someone else has experienced symptoms with just low ferratin, but not being anemic. Have... (4 replies)

... Mine is most likely caused by heavy periods coupled with an inability to absorb iron because of daily use of prilosec to treat GERD caused by a hiatal hernia. ... (4 replies)
... nycJane--There is a really good thread to read on this board about colonoscopy, I think that it was started by Osteoblast. You should pull it up, it had lots of good information. It is standard procedure to have these tests done. My doctor didn't ask for it but I knew to have it done from what I had read on the net, when I looked up anemia. When I saw the GI doc he said... ... Yes, this makes perfect sense especially at your age. You are only one year away from needing a routine one anyway. I was 42 when my anemia showed up. They kept saying 'heavy periods' but I really never believed that. My GP said that he felt like he couldn't rest easy until I had the colonoscopy done. I was in that "gray" area of needing one. At 42, I was no longer... (7 replies)
... JJ1--I also have a hiatal hernia and GERD. I have been on Nexium and Prilosec for 7 years. I didn't really think that periods were my problem either. I am also Hypo T and ate no red meat before anemia. So, I have a few reasons that could possibly contribute to anemia, as do you. Which one is the reason? Well, I think that you have to rule them out one at a time to really... (6 replies)
... previously had no problems with absorbing and retaining iron. It was only through my insistence that my doctors checked for possible causes. I am on Nexium for GERD due to a hiatal hernia and have been for about 8 years and on Prevacid for several years prior to that. ... (6 replies)

... They did find blood in my stool but have found no reason for it. I had my endoscopy on wednesday and they found nothing wrong except for my gerd problems. I do have some occasional clotting during my periods but not horrible. I just don't know what is going on and no one else seems to either. ... (6 replies)
... I've never been one to post on health boards before, though I've read them over the years, for various things. I found out I was anemic almost a week ago. ... (16 replies)

... I went through my first pregnancy at 21 years old and they told me that I was slightly anemic and that I should eat more iron. No supplements or anything. After my daughter was born things went downhill. Major foggy brain, and sooo exhausted. ... (2 replies)
... then once I was diagnosed as anemic the onset of RLS seemed to make a lot of sense. ... (3 replies)
... one of my first clues is that I will have episodes that last for weeks of not being able to take a satisfying breath. It was comforting to know that many GERD folks suffer from this and it turns out that when the espophagus is very irritated, it stimulates the cardiac and bronchial nerves that run through that area. ... ... Well it works out that this guys medication is not an enzyme as far as i'm aware. It is used to treat Gerd. I don't know much about Gerd and whether it is connected to reflux? ... (20 replies)
... probably why I am feeling anemic now as I wasn't this bad before. ... (12 replies)
... This makes no sense to me. I have no explanation for why I'm anemic or why it's ok to just stay this way. In addition, I don't function very well. I'm not really sure what to do or what it might be. ... (3 replies)
... I think that if you have real problems with the GERD or whatever, that you should probably stay on the PPI's, even when taking iron supplements. You may feel better for it. ... (6 replies)

... My doctor is recommending a colonoscopy. I do take medications for acid reflux. I have done 2 stools and both have been negative. I did not get the B-12 and Folate checked. I have been a frequent blood donor for the past 2 years but every time I donate I suppose my iron levels have been high enough to donate. I have never been turned down. I have really been tired and... (3 replies)
