... hello Mel52, yes that is drastic having the spleen out but it is good to know your husband now is doing fine. Curiously, what are the other options to having the spleen removed? Cortisone is something I would not consider but as I have yet to learn what treatment as there are more tests I'm having at present. It may be that mine is an acquired auto-immune haemolytic anemia... (7 replies)

... I have both Immune Hemolytic Anemia and Immune Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). I developed ITP first, in 1990. I had my spleen removed in 1995 which sent me into remission for ITP. But in 2003, I developed hemolytic anemia. The treatment for my anemia is Prednisone and IVIG. Also, I've found for me that daily prescription folic acid and monthly B12 shots help my red counts.... ... :wave:Hello Dee--Welcome to the boards! Sorry that you have been DX'ed with hemolytic anemia. Most people here experience (IDA) iron deficiency anemia. Sometimes people do come here with your DX, but not too often. You may also want to check out the blood disorders board there are also people there at times that know something.
