I had a bunch of blood work done because I have been gaining a bunch of weight for no reason, and am finally off antidepressants after 10 years (which messed with my hormones I'm sure). Hi, thanks for your kind words, her hb is 11.1 and haematocrit is 0.324 (norm 0.34-0.40) they dont know the cause of her anemia, i am assuming thats why her consultant wants her in for more tests. she has just woken up after a 12 hour nights sleep and is laid rubbing her eye complaining she is tired :( horrible to see, she should be running riot at that age! lol ... ... Try and stay calm momma. This is pretty low and low ferritin can cause a lot of symptoms, especially tired. If you already know the cause and the Dr. has her on Iron then you are a step ahead. ... (8 replies)

... Hope 555: I would refer to the BMJ article discussing unexplained fatigue in women with less than 50 ferritin. It is available on the web. As I said to Gigi, many of us who have low ferritin, and may or may not be anemic, are aiming for 50-70. Check my older posts concerning iron defiency levels and other info ;) (9 replies)
... Audrey, Your doctor is correct about the soils. I would imagine that many parts of Australia would have these problems based on the climate. I know that many, many, many years ago in the States it was also a problem but not throughout the whole country. There were certain "belts" of the country where goiters were a big problem.
