... best. The sad thing is docs didn't test this until 6 months ago. I was dx with tthyroid problems 3 years ago but I couldn't tolerate thyroid meds because of my low ferritin. ... Jen77--Sorry you are feeling so terrible. I think that your 200mgs is really giving you 65mgs of elemental iron 3X=195mgs of iron. This is ~probably~ the dose that it takes to bring up the Ferritin and any possible anemia. You do have to be careful when taking FS, for some that are sensitive it can be bad. ... Shirley--So it has not been that long since your surgery. I hope that you receive good results when you go back in Oct. Long term low ferritin wouldn't make the B-12 stores low. Yes, I do think that it has something to do with you not feeling well. How much I can't really say. If you are still having heavy bleeding with the periods then that too will make you feel bad. ... ... There is no definite time frame when it comes to taking iron supplements. Some ladies on this board were fortunate that they responded very well to what they were taking in only a month. In those particular cases i would say those ladies would likely reach their desired ferretin target in possibly 6months. Unfortunately the majority of us have a much more difficult time of...
