... best. The sad thing is docs didn't test this until 6 months ago. I was dx with tthyroid problems 3 years ago but I couldn't tolerate thyroid meds because of my low ferritin. I was becoming hyperthyroid on the meds but the docs were too stupid to figure it out. They really messd me up and now my hair...grrrr. ... (2 replies)

... it's good you have had those series of tests so that you can at least elimate a few reasons for possible low ferritin. If you eat meat in your diet and eat a healthy diet, then the low ferritin can't be from your diet, but can be due to malabsorption of nutrients in your diet due to any number of reasons. ... My endocrinologist wanted me to supplement with 325mg iron daily when my ferritin was 38 , so for sure I think your doc should get you started on iron supplements and then monitor your levels till you get in a good range. ... Low ferritin

... The Ferritin level is just a measure of stored iron. It is what is left over after you have utilized what you need for daily functions. If it is at the low norm then you probably are not anemic. However, a low thyroid level will cause the symptoms you describe. ... (4 replies)
