... Hello, anemic friends! I'm new to the board and have been reading the posts like crazy trying to make sense of my recent discouraging blood test results. The results are similar to many others who've posted, but I wanted to run them by the forum in case something stood out. Any insights, advice or just plain encouragement would be very welcome. A little background. I'm a... (0 replies)

... My lab results yesterday shows that my iron saturation at 5% is quite low. I have been feeling like something that cat dragged in for a couple of years now but have only been minimally tested for iron with only CBCs in the past. My hematocrit and hemoglobin levels have been out of range for about a year but not enough to cause any concern. This week was the first time that... (10 replies)

... I'm a little confused about the results of an iron panel I recently had done. I took the test while fasting before 10am. I wanted to have everything tested because I've been feeling very lethargic lately...more tired than usual (I'm often fatigued - have been for years), no drive to do anything, racing heart beat... It seems like I'm cold more than usual too, and starting late... (1 replies)

... shimsham, Not a male and I'd say you're going to be hard pressed to find one. We have had one or two pop in but they don't stay! Anyway, your GP is correct that is VERY unusual for a male to be anemic from iron deficiency. It is almost always due to blood loss. The other possibility is some type of autoimmune disorder or heredity issue which would cause destruction of... (1 replies)
... My recent blood tests (repeated at different labs) showed normal iron levels of 132 (older middle aged male) but a total iron binding capacity of 132 for a saturation of 100%. What could this possibly mean? My doctor asked me to cut back on iron-rich foods and get another test in 4 months, but I already eat a very moderate diet that should not be contributing to that (low... (0 replies)
... all have regarding these labs. They are quite confusing considering they don't quite add up to...anything, actually. Some normal, some low, but those that are low should actually be high..etc. ... (1 replies)
... I was diagnosed with IDA in July due to having gastric bypass 5 years ago and not supplementing. I've been taking 250mg elemental iron and 3 Proferrin for 8 weeks now. Actually I've been taking 300mg elemental a day for the last two weeks, but it took some time to work up to these levels so 250mg is about average. I wonder if these results are about typical? My Hemoglobin and... (1 replies)
