... I know this an old thread, but I'd sure love to know too. I'm facing the same. I had my last chemo on 2/13/12. All numbers are good but my RBC, hemoglobin & hematocrit took a nosedive recently. Heck, my RBC were better during chemo! I really don't understand the role Ferritin plays in all of this. Vit B12 looks fine. So does iron. Does this mean I have internal bleeding... (7 replies)

... I have hypochromic, microcytic anemia with polychromasia (grey-blue colored red blood cells, and hypochromia is pale red blood cells). Normal RBC count, normal hematocrit level but low MCV, MCH, MCHC, and hemoglobin levels. WBC sometimes shows up as normal, or slightly elevated on recent blood tests, and platelets normal. My serum ferritin is 96 which is well within normal. ... (0 replies)
... ducate myself better on what tests might be beneficial in determining the cause of this anemia. I'll be looking up ESR for sure. I don't even know what MCV, MCH, MCHC means and how they relate to one another. It's so, so confusing to me. ... (10 replies)
... Hi all I was dx with Iron Def anemia back in July. I was dx by a hematologist. I was feeling fine. I had no symptoms of iron def. Yet, back in July my ferritin was at an 8, my hemoglobin was low, hematocrit was low, RDW-CV was high, sat rate was low, TIBC was high. Serum iron was fine at 65. I still get monthly periods. I am 43 and my periods are now closer together and... (2 replies)
... I think it's a normal thing. When I was anemic and as my lab reflected it was a long, long process getting to that point, my RBC's were consistently normal values. However, my Hgb was 8.5 and my ferritin a 2, so I would say it is normal. That has been my personal experience. Now, when there is a simple iron deficiency anemia present, your labs with look like this: CBC... (12 replies)

... doxielove--Welcome to the boards! That is a good question, I can explain a little perhaps. Ranges are just that and nothing more. Not all people will fit into these ranges and this is the way it is for some. Doesn't necessarily mean something is abnormal. However, it could mean many different things for individuals. As far as the MCV goes the Normal Adult... (2 replies)

... I looked those up because my husband's are very high also. If I remember correctly and perhaps an expert can jump in, I thing it is the size and number of red blood cells. In my husband's case he has hemolytic anemia. (4 replies)
... Ritah- I was just diagnosed as anemic about 3 months ago. When I was younger I went through a small bout of it as well. This one actually was going for a really long time with no one trying to figure it out. My Ferritin Level was 2 with obvious low H and H! Along with low MVC, MCH, MCHC, and RDW-C. I have now been taking my iron 2 times a day for the last month and half.... (15 replies)

... Hello, anemic friends! I'm new to the board and have been reading the posts like crazy trying to make sense of my recent discouraging blood test results. The results are similar to many others who've posted, but I wanted to run them by the forum in case something stood out. Any insights, advice or just plain encouragement would be very welcome. A little background. I'm a... (0 replies)

I have been feeling like something that cat dragged in for a couple of years now but have only been minimally tested for iron with only CBCs in the past.
