... I was diagnosed with anemia 3 years ago after I could barely make it through my finals week at the end of the semester. I was so pale and had no energy. Over the past 3 years it's come and gone and for the last year, according to two doctors, it's gone for good. However, I'm still pale and have low energy. I have been taking iron supplements for the last 6 months (65mg) once a... (2 replies)

... Stacy--Your labs look really good. Optimal are the numbers that you want to shoot for and you are there! Congrats! Now, you have the ferritin to replete and continue building your B-12 and that takes time. Let me know how the vinegar works out for you without PPI's. Good luck to you. Hope that you are feeling better. FLFLOWERGIRL:) (4 replies)

... Your MCV and MCH are just very slightly low and probably not low enough to warrant any concern unless they persist in being low for several months or begin getting much lower. For what it's worth, 5% of the healthy population will exhibit readings on a CBC panel outside of the normal range on any given day, so it's entirely possible that these minimally low readings are... ... Thanks again for your quick replies. Still waiting for the iron test. I've had two CBCs in a week and both had the same result as far as pattern, but the RBC HGB all HCT went a little lower (the second set of results is the one I originally posted about), and the platelets higher (but not out of control). These are what the first results showed: WBC: 4.9 (3.8-10.8)... (7 replies)
... I got my results back recently. The testing was done as ENT couldn't figure out why I'm having lump in throat issues. He thought it was reflux and gave me a PPI which was useless basically. Anyway, so now we're one step in a concrete direction finally and I can hopefully figure out what to do next and find a more helpful doctor. Results seems somewhat normal (I'm only... (3 replies)

... Hi, I just had these faxed because they told me my iron was low but I don't know how to read this. For years I have always been cold, tired, and I get these electric shocks in my body periodically which I thought might be attributed to low iron or vitamin deficiency. What do they mean?

... THESE are one reason your doc says it's iron deficiency. MCV means mean cell volume and basically indicates the size of your red cells. Less than 80 or so is small, and more than 100 is big. ... (2 replies)
... Last year, I had a total of 8 IV iron infusions to deal with my iron deficiency anemia. I think more is going on than just anemia here and have not gone back to the hematologist simply because after all of the infusions, nothing improved. I've had my regular doctor do bloodwork on me every 4-5 months and things are still looking rough with my levels. I don't know what to do... (0 replies)
