... So, I've been low on iron off and on for as long as I can remember. I get turned down at the blood donor clinic 8 out of 10 attempts, but my blood work from the lab usually says my hemoglobin is within normal range. Last week my doctor decided to do more blood work, because I'm at that ripe old age of 40... So here is how it came back: Hematology WBC 5.1 ... (0 replies)
... They sent me to an oncologoist too..but it was just because if one of those numbers is low the other one is too high or the other way around...the oncologist didn't seem concerned about it and said that the numbers would be right again once the anemia was under control. How did it work out with your mom? (2 replies)

... I tried to post this a while ago, but it didn't seem to work. Well, I have some symptoms for going on more than 2 years now. I recently had blood work down trying to figure out why I've been (tired, cold, irritable, disoriented, irregular menstrual cycles, zero sex drive, dry skin, mild hair loss). My doctor said the only problem she found was low ferritin, its a 4. ... (1 replies)
... Hi!! I have had a series of awful symptoms for the past 2 years (fatigue, irritability, hair loss, dry skin, mental disorientation - I am in my early 30's). I finally got a doctor to take me serious, and not offer anti-depressants, and do blood tests. She said that my ferritin is a 4, and that she's having the lab run some additional tests based on that. I will be talking... (6 replies)
... From my understanding a normal RBC for Women is 4.2 to 5.4 million/uL Anemia can be serious if left untreated, "please" consult with your doctor before doing anything. NovaFerrum is a good prescription iron that you may want to consult with your doctor about. A good physician will guide you on what you need to know. All the best. (2 replies)

My Anemia Story
Sep 4, 2011
... For years, doctors have looked at my labs and said, "Eh, you're a bit anemic." Then my symptoms got worse. First it was the stamina dropping off- like my muscles didn't want to cooperate with me. Then it was the shortness of breath walking any distance over 50 ft. Then it was the muscle cramps- those were the worst. Always in my trunk, sometimes stretching around my back,... (2 replies)
... First off, for the past three weeks I've noticed that I am bruising way more than usual. I don't even do anything and I find another bruise. Anyway, I won't post the results that state I do NOT have a coagulation disorder since the two tests done were perfectly normal. However, here is what else was done: WBC 6.8 4.0 - 11.0 10e9/L RBC 3.81 3.8 - 5.2 10e12/L... (2 replies)

... I originally went in for depression/anxiety, I was simply at my wits end. GP gave me ssri and xanax scrips...along with lab check. Also told them I don't tolerate opiods or synthetic iron well at all. The office called that night said my labs indicated need to come back asap. First GP was not in next day, so had another dr give me the results below and scrip for ferrous... (9 replies)
... I've been dealing w/ some underlying issues that led to severe anemia. I had surgery on 1-11-11 to correct the issue (which stopped the bleeding) but my iron numbers aren't increasing. My Dr. won't refer me to a hematologist as she thinks since my anemia was due to heavy monthly bleeding which she feels has hopefully been corrected, and that it's an iron deficiency not B12 or... ... Hi- I recently visited my dr because I'd begun to experience significant hair loss in recent months, and had been feeling tired, unable to concentrate etc. She did a number of blood tests, the results of which indicated an iron deficiency, which she thinks is contributing to my hair loss. I'm on ferrous sulfate, 3x a day and supposed to go back for retesting in a month. I... (1 replies)

However, I have always been anemic with bloodwork "slightly" out of whack. My doctors over the past few years have done lots of blood work...thought it was iron deficient. Treat it with iron, found out B12 deficient, now shots... (1 replies)

How Bad are counts

... You should check (and post) the reference (i.e., normal) ranges from your lab report, which are important to know in evaluating the severity of low blood counts. For example, I have seen RBC reference ranges with low limits of anywhere from 4.0 to 4.7. When I follow these results over time I prefer to look at the percentage a result is below the lower limit in order to smooth... (1 replies)
