... Flflowergirl, I have read alot too about the PPI's causing this. I was taking Pepcid for over a year which is an H2 not a PPI but still I think you are right about there being a connection. And strangely, since I have been eating meat I have not had heartburn. ... (48 replies)
... Stacy--Your labs look really good. Optimal are the numbers that you want to shoot for and you are there! Congrats! Now, you have the ferritin to replete and continue building your B-12 and that takes time. Let me know how the vinegar works out for you without PPI's. Good luck to you. Hope that you are feeling better. FLFLOWERGIRL:) (4 replies)

... Scout and Rainbows End--I wanted to say thank you for your contributions to this board, not only for helping other folks, but your knowledge of B-12 and compassion. I have always told people to check B-12 and some do, but many tend to listen only to their doctor because they know more than me, of course! It helps to have positive information and reinforcements on the board. ... (34 replies)

... Nyxie--I think that having the IF test is a good idea. It's easy and will tell you if this is the cause of your problems. I have a friend that has B-12 and iron deficiency and they cannot find a cause, she even has IF when tested. That's really weird. She has had most all of the testing. I wonder if we will ever have these answers? Are you taking high dose iron? Best of... (10 replies)
... It's never easy, is it? LOL No hashi's, but was tested close to 2 years ago. Would love to get my antibodies done again, especially since I've had some on-and-off funky thyroid swelling and pain. It's not often, but enough to worry me a little. I'm taking a PPI. Omeprazole to be exact. I usually take a vit C tablet with my iron to boost absorbtion. Wonder if it's... (10 replies)
... Another question. Do I feel so bad because my ferritin is low? My iron is looking better, but I am confused. I still feel bad most of the time. I never have a moment without my symptoms. I am doing iron supp 3x a day and B12 shot weekly (have done 2 so far) and am taking a handful of vitamins and supplements. I am ready to feel better. Do you think when I get my ferritin up... ... Thanks Flflowergirl, I am not so sure the apple cider vinegar is working. I feel acid in my throat and am feeling a little short of breath. Not good. I don't know what to do. This is probably my 5th or 6th day without PPI's. I was really hoping I could drop them. I am still planning on getting B12 shots (weekly) for a while and am taking iron 3 x a day. My symptoms are all... (4 replies)
... If you are taking subs, does a blood test accurately show if you are getting the B12 into your tissues where it is needed? ... (8 replies)
... Audrey--I guess there is really no way around all the things that impair absorption. You can only try to do your best when taking supplements. I remember I ate like a scientist when I was anemic, I wonder if that helped or not. I have never had my B-12 tested until I was diagnosed with anemia. At least my doc knew to test for it. I am amazed at how many doctor's do not... (2 replies)
... Nyxie--Thanks for the well wishes! It has been a long time, I often wonder what your up too. I really do hope that you can get to the cause of all this. Lymes disease, it's so hard to say if you really do have it from what I have read. How can you be sure of what you are treating? Maybe it was a good thing that you ran out of money. Maybe a break from all that will help.... (10 replies)

... Kimy27--B-12 deficiency can be due to AI--Autoimmune reasons, one of which is PA-Pernicious Anemia, which you have already ruled out by the IF test. I have read that IF testing is only 50 percent specific but much more specific in testing for Parietal Cell. Some doctors don't care to run many tests to find out why because a B-12 deficiency is treated the SAME way through IM... (8 replies)
