... Please let me know what your levels turn out to be and what you decide about the Proferrin. I'm glad you've seen improvement in your hair. I've been taking Proferrin for two days and no stomach problems. It showed things down a little bit but so was the gentle iron, but nothing my stomach cannot handle. I typically can get heartburn and I had been taking Prilosec, but now,... (6 replies)

... Wendy, I wanted to warn you about something: taking proton pump inhibitors( acid blockers) like Zantac, Prilosec, Acifex, etc can make your body unable to absorb oral iron! This happened to me: I was taking Acifex for GERD, and having extremely heavy periods and the combination caused my Hgb to drop to 4 which is almost incompatible with life! I had 3 transfusions and many many... (74 replies)
... Welcome ! In response to your questioning if Nexium would block the iron absorbtion-*Yes it does just as Prilosec does-thus that is why I get infusions BUT I had to get off of this med & go on Zantac. Infusions do not effect the absorbtion as it doesn't go through the intestinal track & that is where the iron gets blocked. If you have not seen a hemotologist yet-well shame on... (74 replies)

... Liz, I also take 40 mg of Prilosec per day (prescription) and my iron seems to be absorbing along with that. If there is one that works better with the PPIs, I don't think anyone knows what it is. (8 replies)
... Well, I went to the GI on Tuesday. I got really excited only to get disappointed- yet again! He gave me the results (polyp in stomach, small intestine, and one in the blood vessel of small intestine, along with one in the colon). He said what he did notice was my stomach lining was extremely smooth with no folds. He has had me on Prilosec, but I am still hurting (at times... (23 replies)
... It could be that those particular iron supplements just don't agree with you. Sometimes the types of binders they use in slow release pills can cause nausea issues. You may want to try a regular type of iron I remember when Prilosec first went over-the-counter. I had been taking it just fine in its prescription form. When it went OTC, they changed the... ... you have had to join us. It is a little unusual for a young male to be diagnosed with IDA so it is good that your doctor is scheduling the colonoscopy. If your ferritin and iron are low it can mean that you are losing blood somewhere through internal bleeding so that is what he wants to check out. ... (11 replies)
