... you may be taking to much iron. What does your doctor say? I would think your doctor would lower your iron. You can get to much iron and it will cause your problems with your liver, heart, pancreas, skin, joints, and overies for woman, and testes for males, so if I were you I would ask my doctor to lower the iron I was taking. or at least find out why he hasn't done... ... I have been feeling very run down and exhausted. The doc that is treating me for my thyroid wanted me to see a hematologist for what he referred to as suboptimal ferritin levels. My thyroid numbers have been up and down over the years. My ferritin is always low. The hematologist was concerned about how bad I looked. She ordered a bone marrow biopsy and a whole lot of... ... Greetings, In a nutshell, I've become anemic and we don't know why. After a lot of lab tests we know that it's iron deficiency anemia. My primary doc says that the labs indicate internal bleeding/blood loss, and she wants me to have a colonoscopy; my rheumatologist also said she thinks we need to start with a colonoscopy. That's fine, but the occult blood tests have all... (11 replies)

... I've been dealing w/ some underlying issues that led to severe anemia. I had surgery on 1-11-11 to correct the issue (which stopped the bleeding) but my iron numbers aren't increasing. My Dr. won't refer me to a hematologist as she thinks since my anemia was due to heavy monthly bleeding which she feels has hopefully been corrected, and that it's an iron deficiency not B12 or... ... First of all thanks so much for replying. No, they don't know what is causing it. That is one reason my PCP is sending me to a hematologist. My PCP said she doesn't believe that I am bleeding internally since my H&H is normal. She thinks that I am not able to absorb the iron properly. She is concerned because last August my ferritin level was 8.2, they rechecked it on... (4 replies)
