... This is a measurement of the size of the RBC. RBC's are usually a distinct size and I think shape. IDA and B deficiencies cause the blood cells to be smaller in size. When anemic the range for this number goes higher if you have been anemic for a while. Mine is still flagged H at 16.6, so this takes a long time to correct. ... Anemia is a deficiency of (RBC) Red Blood Cells OR less than normal amount of (Hgb) hemoglobin. Anemia is determined through a CBC blood test which includes the RBC, Hgb and Hct.
