... Hi everyone--I got great news today and wanted to share it with all of you. My Ferritin was a Total of 35. I went from a 20 to 35 in 4 1/2 months up 15 points. I am so excited, I know that's why I'm feeling so much better lately. I also wanted to post my original numbers and ending 1 yr later to compare where I've been. So here they are as follows: CBC 1/16/2007 ... (8 replies)
... Sorry for this being long. Just want to get as much info into this as possible. I was recently dx'd with low ferritin at 7 (10-291) and the dr has put me on 75 mg of iron a day. There's other things going on too, but not sure if they're contributing factors or not. From what little reading I've done on this, it seems like the whole chicken/egg thing. In Feb, they found... ... Might be good to add the RBC, etc. values. These are about typical over the past couple of years: 6/2007: WBC 6.9 x10E3/uL ( 4.0 - 10.5 ) RBC 4.96 x10E6/uL ( 4.10 - 5.60 ) Hemoglobin 14.8 g/dL ( 12.5 - 17.0 ) Hematocrit 42.7 % ( 36.0 - 50.0 ) MCV 86 fL ( 80 - 98 ) MCH 29.8 pg ( 27.0 - 34.0 ) (8 replies)
... Yes, you would be considered anemic, but very borderline. Some doctors require all three to be low (RBC, Hematocrit, and Hemoglobin) to diagnosis anemia, while other doctors only require the Hematocrit or Hemoglobin to be low. Your MCV, if low, shows that you have a "microcytic" anemia which is almost always iron deficiency. So, while you are not horribly anemic, you... (8 replies)
... I found out I was anemic in January when I went for a workup at the GI doc's for unexplained changes in bowel habits.....tons of diarrhea and tons of frequency. I also have something called ankylosing spondylitis which is a form of inflammatory arthritis. My GI did a colonoscopy to check for Crohn's or ulcerative colitis. He did find colitis, but believed it was due to the... (7 replies)

CBC: help please

... MCV stands for Mean Corpuscle Volume. By itself this means very little for or against your health. As you know, lymphoma can exist with very good blood counts as it does not really interfere with the blood making duties of your body. If you have lymphoma, it would not effect your blood counts unless you were bleeding from the effects of tumor bleeding etc, If your potassium is... (5 replies)
CBC: help please

... Hello, I am a 31 year old female who is trying to pinpoint the cause of some symptoms I've been having. I have a lymph node in the neck and one in the upper chest area, that will be biopsied soon to rule out lymphoma. During the bloodwork that I have been having, in evaluating my condition, I have came across some things I'd like to understand better. For at least a year now,... (5 replies)

... Hi Everyone - I have an appointment to see my hematologist on 12/12 but until then I thought I'd look around here to see if I can find similar stories or some answers. My OB found I was severely anemic at my first prenatal appointment last year. So much so that she thought I had been anemic for some time and just had no reason to be tested for it until then. Before... (0 replies)

... A little over a month ago, my husband got the following blood test results (sorry there are so many of them, I wanted to give a complete picture). ... Hello I've been dealing with anemia for years without doctors paying much attention to it or to the fact that my periods were always heavier than most. Until about 6 months ago that is. I find out my iron is a 7. Which the range is supposed to be between 11.5 and 13. We had upper and lower GI to rule out internal bleeding which I knew they would find none. Then in January my... ... Hello, Beginning about 4 months ago, I started having Restless Leg Syndrome out of the blue, numb & tingly hands throughout the day, shedding massive amounts of hair, and experiencing terrible fatigue and weakness, and occasional heart palpitations & dizziness. A few months prior to these symptoms, I had stopped taking my multi-vitamins (that did contain iron). Also, I do... (3 replies)
